Did you know that dry cleaning is not so dry and not so clean? When you take your curtains, comforters, or suit jackets to the cleaner, they end up wet with solvents or detergents. While environmentally-friendly detergent-based “wet cleaning” is on the rise in Canada, the most popular type of professional cleaning uses the solvent perchloroethylene, or PERC. The toxic chemical is linked to cancer, respiratory problems, and reproductive and neurological effects.
